Introduction


Sand Ridge Secure Treatment Center (SRSTC) within the Department of Health Services (DHS) is recruiting to fill a full time Training Program Specialist position in Mauston. Work hours are 7:45 am - 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

SRSTC opened in 2001 and provides care and treatment for several different patient populations. The center houses Wisconsin’s Sexually Violent Persons Program, provides care and treatment for persons found not guilty by reasons of mental disease or mental defect, and provides court ordered treatment, testing, and education to patients found not competent to stand trial. SRSTC is a 500-bed treatment facility and is part of the Division of Care and Treatment Services (DCTS). Watch this video to learn more about the work of DCTS.

Position Summary


In this role, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, delivering, and evaluating diversified and specialized training programs for all staff including security staff, direct care staff, clinical staff, supervisors, and others. SRSTC’s training program and continuing education courses are accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Education Sponsor Approval (CESA). You will:

  • Develop measures to assess training needs to support the work plans and the mission of the facility.
  • Update and maintain training materials including developing curriculum and course objectives.
  • Evaluate technical and specialized staff development and training programs for all staff at the facility and making recommendations of training program changes.
  • Provide continuing education courses for treatment, clinical, social work, research, and evaluation staff to meet their annual requirements for licensure.
  • Work with facility management teams, departmental and project groups to ensure consistency and quality of training programs offered by the facility.

Salary Information


The starting pay is $36.00-$38.38 per hour (approximately $74,800-$79,800 per year) plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is classified as a Staff Development Program Specialist – Senior and is in pay schedule and range 81/03.

Job Details

  • All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by SRSTC or medical personnel approved by the facility after their start date.
  • All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
  • DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire. DHS is not an E-Verify employer nor a STEM-OPT eligible employer.

Qualifications


Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:

  • Experience developing, coordinating, or presenting an education or training curriculum.
  • Experience working with computer-based applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc.), Adobe Create, Cornerstone, I-Spring Suite or other learning management software, for creating course instruction materials.
  • Experience working in an adult living environment, mental health facility, corrections, military, or law enforcement setting.

Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:

  • Experience developing and presenting an adult education or training curriculum.
  • Training certifications related to corrections, government, or healthcare for adult learners such as Principles of Subject Control (POSC), Defense and Arrest Tactics (DAT), Taser, Firearms, Incapacitating Agents, DOT 15 passenger Van Driver Instructor, etc.
  • Experience evaluating training program effectiveness and recommending improvements.

Additional requirements include:

  • Must be legally and physically able to possess and properly use firearms.
  • Must meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy which requires a valid driver’s license, minimum two years non-probationary licensed driving experience with a regular (Class D) driver’s license and must be 18 years of age or older. Additionally, the driving record must not reflect the following conditions: three or more moving violations and/or at fault accidents in the past two years, an OWI or DUI violation within the past 12 months, or suspension or revocation of the driver's license.
