The Department of Corrections is currently recruiting to fill a Registered Nurse (Nurse Clinician 3 - Weekend) position, located at Dodge Correctional Institution in Waupun, Wisconsin.
This position is part of the Infirmary, working 3 - 12 hour shifts from 6 PM - 6:30 AM Friday through Sunday.
Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Nursing Supervisor, the Nurse Clinician 3 (NC3) is responsible for providing advanced skilled nursing care to incarcerated adults in the state correctional facilities in the Infirmary setting. This position works in the Infirmary Unit at Dodge Correctional Institution (DCI) and provides independent management of direct cares to incarcerated adult patients residing on this unit who have unique complex health conditions which are acute, long-term and/or terminal which prevent them from residing in the General Population. The incumbent will provide direct and on-going care, and advanced assessments, to these patients and will provide extensive and complex cares related to activities of daily living (ADL), emotional/psychological support, wound care and other medical treatments, and medication management. This position is responsible for effectively communicating with management and or identifying work issues/barriers; identifying problems and proposed solutions on an ongoing basis. Advanced job responsibilities include : patient assessment and treatment utilizing the nursing process, assisting the provider in the provision of medical services, developing, monitoring, and coordination of treatment plans with the treatment team, management of medications, provision of emergency care, interdisciplinary plan of care development, discharge planning, and documentation in the electronic medical record. In addition to providing direct patient care responsibilities, this position will assist with staff assignment scheduling and appropriate delegation to nursing staff to meet the needs of the assigned patients or patient population. Also, the Nurse Clinician 3 is expected to develop and/or participate in educational programs for staff and patients about safe completion of ADL’s, chronic disease management, treatment plans, nursing and medical diagnoses, along with evaluating quality assurance of standards of care on the unit. The incumbent will serve as a consultant to uniformed and non-uniformed staff.
Salary Information

These positions are in pay schedule and range 11-01 with a starting pay of $46.11/hour - $52.86/hour. There is a base $1.00/hour add-on for all hours worked and an add-on of $10.00/hour for hours worked during qualifying weekend hours. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period (or career executive trial period) is required.

Candidates with no prior permanent employment with the State of Wisconsin in the past 5 years may be eligible to accept a sign-on bonus of $2,000. The sign-on bonus will be paid in two installments: $1000 on the first paycheck and $1000 with the paycheck for the pay period in which the employee attains permanent status (usually 1 year). (UW System employment isn’t disqualifying.) To receive the bonus, a candidate must sign an agreement indicating they will remain in the occupational area for one year. If the candidate leaves prior to completing the one year, they may be required to reimburse the initial payment.
Job Details

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.
The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.
This position is part of the Infirmary, working 3 - 12 hour shifts from 6 PM - 6:30 AM Friday through Sunday.
This position has physical requirements, including but not limited to: standing, pushing/pulling, lifting/carrying, kneeling, bending, etc.
Qualifications

Special Requirement:
Must possess and maintain an active unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Wisconsin or another state participating in the Nurse Licensure Compact.

In addition to the special requirement, minimally qualified applicants will have experience :
Treating patient conditions with appropriate utilization of nursing protocols
Developing, refining, and revising a patient plan of care utilizing continuous patient assessment and evaluation
Providing healthcare education to patients and staff
