The State of Utah Division of Technology Services is looking for a motivated, self-starter Mobile Field Technician, who wants to have a great career providing technical support and development in data communication systems. The Mobile Field Technician will be dispatched all over the state as needed. Incumbents will assist with installing network and telecommunications equipment, including audio-visual equipment, VOIP, POTS, radio bridges, WiFi access points, low-voltage cabling, UPS power systems, switches, security cameras, and routers.
This position requires travel and overnight stays throughout the State of Utah, with the Taylorsville State Office Building (TSOB) 4315 S 2700 W, Taylorsville, UT, serving as the primary hub for administrative and logistical support. Technicians are expected to report to the TSOB for all mandatory meetings, administrative work, and logistical requirements.

- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, structured cabling, and associated telecommunications infrastructure, including racks and power systems (PDUs and UPSs).
- Pull, install, trace, and label category cabling and fiber optic pathways across various environments and stations.
- Install and troubleshoot VoIP phones, on-premise analog solutions, and data communication circuits in coordination with carriers.
- Deploy radio and wireless equipment on ceilings and building exteriors
- Recommend and install complex audio-visual, conferencing, and sound systems.
- Partner with networking and IT teams to install and resolve issues with data communications equipment
- Manage a revolving inventory of 30–200 items, including regular pickups and coordination at TSOB.
- Maintain detailed, accurate logs and records pertaining to all installations, maintenance, troubleshooting efforts, and repair activities. Ensure all documentation is completed in a timely manner.
- Resolve customer trouble tickets on the first call, and offer high-level support through on-site visits.
- Travel daily throughout the State of Utah, including occasional overnight stays, and after-hours or flexible scheduling.
- Attend mandatory in-person meetings and administrative work at the Taylorsville State Office Building (TSOB).
- The position requires flexibility in scheduling, including early morning, late night, and weekend hours that may be needed outside of regular duty hours. Furthermore, the role requires participating in an on-call rotation, to address mission critical outages that occur outside of standard duty hours.
- Comprehensive understanding of wiring types, fiber optics, network topologies, and POTS including their respective color codes.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical documentation, schematics, and instructional manuals.
- Skilled in conveying information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to perform recurring physical exertion, including standing, crouching, stretching, and lifting items up to 51lbs.
- Proficient in the safe utilization of ladders (up to 24’), scaffolding, scissor lifts, and bucket trucks, often with arms extended above shoulder height.
- Willingness to work in inclement weather conditions and across rough terrain during outages or installations.
- Highly developed organizational, analytical, and communication skills, with the capacity for effective multitasking.
- Proven self-starter, capable of independently identifying requirements and follow complex instructions.
- Vendor or agnostic networking certifications.
- ISP/OSP fiber systems, Fiber Splicing, IDF/MDF buildout.
- Knowledge of BICSI, TIA/EIA standards, and regulatory frameworks.
- Experience with Ubiquiti radio design and support, or Wireless Network Certification (CWNP).
- Proficiency with Ekahau Wi-Fi design, survey, and troubleshooting tools.
- Professional A/V design experience or related industry certifications.
- FCC radio tower certifications
- Active Scissor Lift Training or Certification.
