Looking to make a tangible impact on Utah's air quality? The Division of Air Quality is looking for an Environmental Scientist to serve as our Non-road/On-road Air Emissions Analyst. This position may be filled at any of the advertised levels listed below. Salary depends on the job level offered within the series.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpreting and quality checking intricate air emissions inventory data
• Interpreting intricate rules and guidance
• Proficiency working with EPA’s Motor Vehicle Emission Simulator (MOVES)
• Coordinating development of data products across agencies
• Engaging critically with national data developments related to non-road and on-road emissions modeling
• Clearly documenting work so it can be replicated and understood at a later time
  
  

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Proficient in working with Excel and the Google Suite
• Working knowledge of EPA’s Motor Vehicle Emission Simulator (MOVES) or SQL and SQL databases
• Familiarity with Federal Non-road and On-road emissions regulations
• Experience with data analysis, quality control, and visualization
• Ability to stay engaged, proactive, and consistent while analyzing intricate data, guidance, and rules
• Ability to clearly document work
• Ability to communicate clearly and work well in a team environment
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with the specific air pollution issues within the state
• Proficient working with EPA’s Motor Vehicle Emission Simulator (MOVES) and SQL and SQL databases
• Proficiency with air emissions inventory development for non-road equipment, aircraft, and locomotives
• Familiarity with air emissions inventory development for on-road equipment, motor vehicle emissions budgets, and conformity determinations
• Understanding of concepts related to development of emission factors, field campaigns to measure emissions, and on-road/non-road emissions chemistry
• Experience communicating complex emission calculations, inventory processes, and intricate regulations to clients
  
  

Education

Preference may be given to those with a B.S. in Physical or Life Science, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Mathematics, M.A. Urban Planning, or relevant field, however relevant experience may be substituted for education. A combination of a High School degree and experience may be acceptable.

Job Series

The selected candidate for this position may be brought in as an Environmental Scientist I with a salary range of $25.27 - $37.95 per hour, an Environmental Scientist II with a salary range of $29.73 - $44.66 per hour, or an Environmental Scientist III with a salary range of $34.98 - $52.56 per hour.
