Job Responsibilities

Trident Technical College is seeking a skilled and motivated Welding Laboratory Specialist III to support the Welding Program within the Division of Manufacturing and Maintenance. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, effective, and efficient operation of welding laboratories while providing instructional support and teaching courses as needed.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Maintain welding laboratory facilities, equipment, tools, and instructional resources, including purchasing, installing, operating, troubleshooting, and repairing laboratory equipment.
  • Order, receive, inventory, and stock welding consumables and supplies needed for program operations.
  • Teach assigned welding courses as needed using systematically planned and delivered instruction; maintain student attendance and academic records; evaluate student performance and assign grades. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, weekend, and off-site classes.
  • Serve as the lead technician for troubleshooting and repair of complex and specialized welding and electromechanical equipment, coordinating with equipment vendors and technical support personnel as necessary.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with Facilities personnel and assist in ensuring timely completion of maintenance and repair projects within the welding facility.
  • Collaborate with the Environmental Health and Safety Manager to support compliance with safety standards and resolve safety-related concerns.
  • Supervise work-study students and assist faculty with program-related activities and laboratory operations. Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum And Additional Requirements

This position requires a high school diploma and work experience at an advanced skill level in precision machine shop operations.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred applicants will have an Associate degree in Welding Technology or a closely related field and four (4) years of related work experience; or a High school diploma and ten (10) years of related work experience that includes welding training and instruction in the theory and application of:

  • Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
  • Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)
  • Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)
  • Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW)
  • Oxyacetylene Cutting (OAC)
  • Plasma Arc Cutting (PAC)

Candidates Should Also Possess

  • Practical knowledge and experience in SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, and FCAW welding processes.
  • Experience maintaining and repairing welding and laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to track purchase requisitions and budget, shipping, and receiving documentation.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to successfully pass a welding skills test in all welding processes taught within the program.
  • Ability to work effectively in an environment characterized by changing technologies, policies, procedures, and educational requirements.

Additional Comments

The successful candidate must be able to lift up to 100 pounds, carry up to 50 pounds, stoop, kneel, crawl, and stand or walk for extended periods.
