Job Responsibilities
- Directs and supervises the daily operations and activities of approximately 178 uniformed staff in a medium/maximum security facility.
- Ensures the security and safety of all staff, inmates, and visitors.
- Under minimum supervision and guided by written policies and procedures, allocates officers and other resources to various duty shifts and functional areas.
- Conducts inspections of institutional facilities and equipment.
- Assumes primary responsibility for security for all buildings and public property.
- Ensures that inmates maintain high standards of cleanliness and personal grooming.
- Prepares a variety of security related reports.
- Serves as on-call official and as duty warden on the weekends and holiday rotation.
- Performs other duties as required.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
A high school diploma and relevant supervisory experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required supervisory experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and eight (8) years’ experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include four (4) years of supervisory experience.
A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 2 year). Bachelor's and above = 4 years).
Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
