Job Responsibilities
This officer will serve as Captain over DNR Law Enforcement's Investigations Section.
Job Duties Include
- Overseeing and managing all overt Law Enforcement investigations.
- Assisting and guiding investigators, officers and employees with section job duties and assigned investigations.
- Assisting employees with proper documentation of investigations performed.
- Supervising all assigned boating and hunting incident fatality investigations and non-fatality incident investigations.
- Ensuring reports and paperwork are reviewed and corrected before cases are closed.
- Managing the US Coast Guard BARD Reporting system.
- Overseeing the Regulatory Investigations Section and Marine Theft Investigators' case files as assigned by Marine Theft supervisor.
- Reviewing monthly reports, approving SCEIS time/leave entry, and reviewing/approving travel support documents.
- Conducting and scheduling training for the section and division.
- Ensuring that section employees attend any necessary training (in-service, etc.)
- Ensuring all department issued equipment is operational and maintained.
- Conducting all other duties or investigations as assigned.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
A high school diploma and six (6) years experience as a DNR Class 1 Law Enforcement Officer, two (2) years of which must have been in a supervisory level position in DNR Law Enforcement.
Preferred Qualifications
Ten (10) years of experience as a DNR Class 1 Officer, with at least five (5) of those years in a supervisory role. Additionally, seven (7) years of experience conducting investigations is preferred. Possess a thorough understanding of the Title 50 Code of Laws, SCDNR internal policies/procedures/directives, and criminal laws. Ability to communicate and respond effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to follow written and oral directions. Strong management and leadership skills, and ability to function independently. Working knowledge of smart cop and evidence procedures.
