Advertised Job Summary

The Division of Counseling and Rehabilitation located within the USC Floyd School of Medicine's Department of Neuropsychiatry & Behavioral Science, is seeking applications for a full-time, 12 month, non-tenure-track position.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and creative individual who values working collaboratively with faculty and students and will contribute to the program's mission through teaching, scholarship/creative accomplishment, and service.

This position is designated as core faculty within a CACREP-accredited program. The USC Floyd School of Medicine counseling and rehabilitation program, established in 1966, has a long history of preparing qualified professional counselors. With our long-standing emphasis on both traditional as well as clinical rehabilitation counseling, our graduates are eligible to sit for the CRC exam and pursue the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and/or Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) credential as well. We are currently accredited through 2029 by CACREP as a clinical rehabilitation counseling program.

Key responsibilities include:

- Teaching minimum of 6 classes (3/3) during the regular academic year and 2 classes in summer
- Serving as advisor to students
- Conducting supplemental instructional activities such as independent studies, internships, and thesis supervision
- Supervising the work of students and/or graduate assistants
- Engaging in research/scholarly/creative and service activities at levels that are appropriate to faculty rank and departmental tenure/merit criteria.
- Providing services to the program, university and the profession.
- Serving on departmental, college and university committees.
- Actively collaborating on program and departmental administrative activities.

Required Education and Experience


- Earned doctorate in counselor education and supervision, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program, or have a doctoral degree in a related field and been employed as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before 7/1/2013.
- Preparation and experience in counselor education and supervision and/or in clinical counseling. Identification with the counseling profession through memberships and professional organizations (i.e., ACA and/or its divisions).
- Extensive knowledge in the field in which the individual will be teaching.
- Experience providing counseling supervision to counseling students.
- Eligibility for National Certified Counselor (NCC) and South Carolina licensed professional counselor (LPC) and/or licensed addiction counselor (LAC) within 6 months of hire.


Preferred Qualifications


- Experience supervising Practicum and internship students.
- Experience with and/or capacity to contribute to process of maintaining CACREP accreditation, curriculum development, assessment, and program evaluation.
- Experience providing mental health and/or career counseling to people with disabilities.
- Ability to teach clinical addiction courses such as Addiction and the Family, Addiction Rehabilitation, Dual Diagnosis, etc.
- Ability to teach counseling courses such as Counseling Theories and Practice, and Group Counseling.
- Capacity to advise diverse students.
- Evidence of a scholarly agenda in the field of clinical rehabilitation counseling.
- Eligibility for Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) or addiction certification
