Agency Overview
The State Board of Education is made up of 19 members - 11 who are elected and eight who are appointed by the governor. The chairs of the education committees of the Ohio House of Representatives and Ohio Senate serve as non-voting ex officio members. The Superintendent of Public Instruction serves as secretary of the State Board of Education.
The Office for Professional Conduct administers the ethical standards for educators. The office investigates allegations involving criminal or ethical violations to ensure that all Ohio students receive instruction from educators committed to a safe, supportive and healthy school community.
- Conducting legal research and writing reports.
- Responding to law-related inquiries in a timely and confidential manner.
- Assisting staff attorneys in investigations on cases involving professional misconduct of educators with an emphasis on cases not involving criminal convictions.
- Drafting, analyzing and reviewing subpoenas and public records requests.
- Preparing cases for administrative review of disciplinary action including editing and proofreading documents and drafting interview and document summaries.
- Attending administrative hearings.
- Reviewing hearing officer reports and recommendations.
- Responding to inquiries from agency employees, government officials and the public.
- Admission to Ohio Bar pursuant to Section 4705.01 of Revised Code
