This posting is intended to fill a total of (3) three Transportation Worker II positions: 60018171, 60018131, and 60018104. You only need to apply once to be considered for all positions.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
- Working knowledge of standard road maintenance and construction procedures.
- Working knowledge of Work Zone Safety and Workplace safety policies.
- Experience in at least two pieces of Category B Maintenance equipment (asphalt distributor, asphalt mixer, asphalt patcher, crack sealing machine, ditching machine, force feed loader, front end loader, lube truck, asphalt maintainer, post driver, skid steer, street sweeper, tandem dump truck, tractor “A” boom mower, truck w/aerial device).
- Experience in one of the following: pipe installation, installation of erosion control devices, snow and ice removal, ditch maintenance or asphalt patching.
Additional Expectations:
Work requires ability to climb, bend, traverse steep and uneven terrain, and exposure to extreme temperature conditions. Work may include lifting up to 50lbs repeatedly and exerting up 100lbs of force occasionally. Position is subject to emergency callback and may require work during nontraditional work hours including nights, weekends, and holidays. The selected candidate must be able to legally operate CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. Release forms ALCDRG-01 and ALCDRG-06 must be signed allowing NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol. Safety toe footwear required.
Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school or General Educational Development diploma and (3) three years of experience operating equipment directly related to the field of specialization; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
