The NM State Land Office has a Non-Emergency Telework Policy, which allows eligible employees to telework up to twenty-four (24) hours a week consistent with the agency's business needs.

Why does the job exist?

The core mission of the New Mexico State Land Office (NMSLO) is to responsibly generate revenue through a wide array of leasing activities on state trust lands on behalf of public schools, universities and hospitals. The purpose of this position is to assist the Compliance Bureau of the Royalty Management Division in identifying and resolving royalty reported lines that are held in suspense accounts as well as assisting in the processing of royalty returns only as it relates to suspense clearance and may also assist in other Production Unit Numbers (PUNs) duties as needed. This position will perform procedures to resolve royalty reporting issues with remitters that result in outstanding notices and assist in addressing all outstanding accounts. This position requires substantial contact with Oil and Gas return filers in order to provide assistance in these areas. This position will ensure compliance with NM Statutes and regulations, Agency rules and policies, and court decisions while also providing quality customer service to all Trust Beneficiaries throughout the state.
How does it get done?

This position will assist in reducing company suspense balances which includes resolving suspended detail lines and working with remitters to prevent royalty detail lines from suspending. This position will also generate and transmit suspense listings for each royalty remitter, and implement process improvements to reduce suspense balances. This position will research PUN/Lease errors, and address questions from royalty remitters related to PUN/Lease issues and suspense items and may also assist in other PUN duties as needed. This position will perform procedures to monitor outstanding billings accounts, and review and validate outstanding notices while working with remitters to resolve validated outstanding notices.

Internal: Oil, Gas, and Minerals Division; Administrative Services; Commercial Division; Legal Division; Surface Resources Division; and executive State Land Office management officials (Office of the Commissioner).

External: New Mexico public schools, universities and hospitals; individuals; general public; lessees (agricultural, oil and gas companies, commercial, rights-of-ways); natural resource authorization users; program enrollees; hunters; other government entities (state, federal, city, county, tribal).
Ideal Candidate

Minimum Qualification

Two (2) years of experience in Accounting, Auditing, Taxation, Collections, Finance, and/or Budgeting. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a a valid New Mexico Driver's License.

Must obtain and maintain a State of New Mexico Driving Certificate.
Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer to include working with computers, faxes, copiers and printers, and phone usage with extended periods of sitting, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Some travel may be required.
