The DOH local public health offices act as safety net providers for all New Mexicans. They are located across 32 counties. They serve primarily uninsured and under-served populations offering them access to key services such as harm reduction, immunizations, family planning, refugee health care, STD testing and treatment, and tuberculosis treatment.
Our team at DOH Public Health Division (PHD) Pharmacy supports both the DOH mission and the DOH local public health offices by providing pharmacy consulting services, delivery of personal protective equipment, medications and medical supplies to client of our local public health offices and contracted clinics.
Why does the job exist?
The PHD Pharmacy team operates the DOH drug warehouse, retail pharmacy, oversees 3408 program compliance, and participates in DOH emergency response activities. As a pharmacy technician, you will take a key role in our operations through participation in inventory maintenance and control activities, preparation and shipment of medication supply orders, processing of transfer requests, assisting with contracted pharmacy financials, assisting and training less experienced staff, ensuring compliance with all New Mexico Board of Pharmacy and federal regulations, and through the completion of additional tasks as assigned.

Under the supervision of a pharmacist, re-labels medications and assists in the practice of pharmacy, in accordance with DOH policies, state and federal laws.
Independently prepares and processes a variety of medications for distribution, pickup, and delivery.
Assists in the preparation and delivery of prescribed drugs and pharmaceutical preparations in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations.
Fills medication and supply orders for use in Local Public Health Offices (LPHOs) and contracted clinic locations.
Well-versed in the proper storage, disposal, and inventory control of pharmaceuticals.
Orders and receives pharmaceuticals and medical supplies.
Maintains inventory of pharmaceuticals, supplies, and inventory.
Conducts inventory spot checks to ensure proper storage of drugs and medical supplies and adequate inventory levels.
Removes expiring medication from inventory.
Checks for proper storage, disposal, and replacement of drugs and chemicals.
Maintains building and workspace in clean, neat and orderly in condition and appearance.
Completes medication transfer requests from LPHOs and contracted clinic locations
Trains and assists less experienced staff
Performs clerical and billing duties as assigned.
Uses knowledge base to deal with 3rd party payers to ensure successful claim processing for DOH clients.
Assists with processing of financials for contracted pharmacy.
Immediately reports any medication errors to pharmacist on duty.
Maintains knowledge base in pharmacy.
Attends training requested by Manager.
Maintains current pharmacy technician certification through PTCB or ExCPT
Maintains current NMBOP Pharmacy Technician license.

Minimum Qualification
Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician as issued by the New Mexico Board of Pharmacy.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Mixed office and warehouse setting.
Exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting.
Stand for extended periods and frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach for items.
Lift up to 40 Lbs.
Operate carts, dollies, and other equipment to move large quantities of pharmaceuticals or medical supplies
Operate powered industrial equipment (PIT) such as hand trucks and forklifts; training and certification provided.
Climb and descend stairs and ladders
Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust and focus.
