Why does the job exist?
This position will provide administrative support to the State Benefits office at the Bataan Building in Santa Fe, NM. This position will report to the Benefits Bureau Chief. This position with assist the Bureau Chief and the Eligibility Interviewers in reviewing and gathering support documentation to verify eligibility for veteran's state benefits applications and submissions.
How does it get done?
Administrative- answering phone calls, responding to email requests, greeting guests, assist with applications submissions and reviews documentation, and prepared written responses.
Benefits Program Assistance: Employee will meet guest to the NMDVS Santa Fe office, and will be responsible for tracking request that come via walk-ins and scheduled appointments. The information is kept in a database and will update as needed. This position will also send notifications to veterans and eligible dependents when they do not qualify for benefits and will provide notifications of when additional information is required to complete the application process. Employee will verify all supporting documentation for eligibility. This position does not determine eligibility but will work with Eligibility Interviewers to provide support services.

This is a support position. The customers include the Benefits and Memorial Division and the NM Department of Veterans Services.

Minimum Qualification
High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years experience in office administration, customer service, records management technique and procedures, basic accounting, and/or business administration. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required. Direct client interaction and some travel may be required.
