The work at the Academy is grounded in the New Mexico Law Enforcement Training Act, but the mission goes far beyond compliance. The NMLEA is building a culture of continuous learning, ethical leadership, and operational readiness - powered by the Acadis® software suite, which enables staff to track, audit, and elevate training outcomes across every jurisdiction in New Mexico.
Why does the job exist?
The Senior Compliance Officer performs statewide compliance monitoring, audit review, and administrative coordination to ensure law enforcement training and certification programs adhere to the requirements established under NMAC 10.29.1 through 10.29.10. The work is accomplished through detailed review of training documentation, instructor credentials, course approvals, and agency training records, as well as coordination with law enforcement agencies, academy staff, and training partners. The position utilizes training management systems, reporting tools, and administrative processes to analyze data, prepare compliance reports, and support regulatory oversight functions of the Law Enforcement Academy.
Key responsibilities include applying research and management analysis to complex operational issues, coordinating compliance reviews, supporting special projects, and assisting with financial and administrative processes related to training programs. The position also provides guidance to agencies and academy staff regarding compliance requirements and assists with program planning, reporting, and documentation.

Work is performed for the New Mexico Department of Public Safety employees, local law enforcement agencies, dispatch centers, satellite law enforcement academies, and executive and legislative agencies throughout the state.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of experience in investigations, regulation, policy, statutory, and/or contract compliance. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling five (5) years may substitute for the required education and experience
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's Licenses, a current Defensive Driving Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of employment within six (6) months of date of hire. Continued employment is subject to a National fingerprint-based records check within 30 days of assignment and contingent upon remaining felony-free, per Section 5.12.1.1 of the Criminal Justice Information System Security Policy.
Local, in-state and out-of-state travel may be required. Overtime may be required to meet deadlines, peak performance periods, time-sensitive information requests, and other projects.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a fast-paced law enforcement office setting with exposure to armed law enforcement personnel and confidential information. Extensive use of desktop/laptop computer with multiple visual/video display terminals (VDT). Extensive use of agency-issued cell phone. Ability to operate multipurpose copier/scanner/fax machines. Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

COMPLIANCE
- Generate internal compliance and regulatory reports related to training and certification standards.
- Review instructor applications to verify instructor credentials and course accreditation requirements.
- Review admission packets for vetting and approval to ensure compliance with minimum training standards and eligibility requirements.
- Review course accreditation packets for approval to ensure courses meet academy training and curriculum requirements.
- Review instructor certification and advanced instructor certification applications for compliance and approval.
- Conduct in-service training requirement reviews and auditing to verify officer compliance with mandated training standards.
- Compile compliance documentation and maintain tracking records for regulatory reviews.
- Develop spreadsheets and tracking tools for monitoring compliance activities.
- Process and track psychological appeal documentation and related records.
- Assist with lesson plan review and development for training programs.
- Conduct scenario training observations and class evaluations for program compliance.
- Support academy and training program accreditation review processes.
- Serve as a proctor for Law Enforcement Officer Certification Examination (LEOCE).
- Conduct audits of law enforcement training records to verify compliance with state training standards.
- Review satellite academy admission processes for compliance with regulatory requirements
- Generate audit findings and compliance reports based on record reviews.
- Extract and analyze training data reports from training management systems.
- Identify discrepancies or compliance issues and coordinate corrective actions with agencies.
- Triage incoming communications from agencies, students, and commissioned personnel via phone, email, and in person.
- Process and respond to IPRA requests related to training and certification records.
- Assist with financial tracking, payment processing, and record reconciliation related to training programs.
- Maintain paper and electronic filing systems for compliance documentation.
- Perform general administrative and operational support functions as needed to support Academy operations.
