The chosen candidate will be compensated at a rate of 30.458852 per hour. This rate is non-negotiable.

Why does the job exist?

This position performs fire and life safety inspections of General Services Department Facilities Management Division (GSD/FMD) facilities to help ensure buildings, fire protection systems, and life safety equipment remain safe, operational, and compliant with applicable local, state, and federal fire and building codes. The position conducts facility inspections, supports emergency evacuation planning and drills, evaluates fire suppression systems and fire extinguishers, and provides guidance to occupant agencies on fire safety and emergency preparedness.
How does it get done?

Key responsibilities include:
  • Perform fire and life safety inspections of GSD facilities.
  • Inspect fire suppression systems, fire extinguishers, fire alarms, and other life safety equipment to ensure they are operational and compliant with applicable codes.
  • Assist with developing and conducting emergency evacuation plans and evacuation drills.
  • Provide fire safety and emergency preparedness guidance to occupant agencies.
  • Respond to fire alarms and assist local fire departments during emergency incidents, as needed.
  • Identify fire and life safety hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Complete inspection reports and maintain required records.
  • Assist with reviewing construction and renovation projects for compliance with applicable fire and life safety codes.

Minimum Qualification

High School Diploma or Equivalent and one (1) year of experience in general buildings and grounds maintenance, custodial duties, construction, or appliance repair. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements

Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a current and valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification, as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions

Work is performed indoors and outdoors in state-owned facilities and on building grounds. The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, and lifting or carrying materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. The employee may work in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold. The position requires transporting tools and equipment between buildings on large campuses and may require periodic on-call availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to respond to emergencies. Frequent interaction with customer agencies, contractors, building professionals, and government inspectors is required.
