The Nevada Department of Wildlife is recruiting for Division Administrator of Game Management. The position directly supervises 5 Wildlife Staff Specialists, 3 Regional Supervising Biologists, 1 Chief Pilot an administrative assistant and is responsible for the entire Division staff of 47 FTE positions, including Biologists, Wildlife Staff Specialists, Pilots, Aircraft Maintenance Specialists, a Veterinarian, along with supporting seasonal employees. The position is responsible for the management, protection, research, monitoring, and conservation of wildlife classified as game mammals, upland and migratory game birds, and furbearing mammals. The Division’s program areas include: avian and terrestrial game species management, wildlife depredation control and compensation, predator management, wildlife health and disease monitoring, and coordination of game-related habitat and conservation initiatives.

  • Seven or more years of applicable experience managing comprehensive programs involving natural resources, conservation or life sciences, with a minimum of three years of experience in game management, Bachelor’s or above degree in a natural science discipline such as wildlife management, conservation biology, zoology or closely related field preferred, or combination of experience and education.
  • Plans, develops and manages Game programs; establishes and evaluates priorities; coordinates activities between geographical regions, outside agencies and other Divisions in the Department.
  • Attends and participates in Wildlife Commission meetings.
  • Supervises a staff of Supervising Biologists, Wildlife Staff Specialists, Pilots, Veterinarian, and administrative support
  • Prepares, controls, and monitors the Division’s budget.
  • Develops, analyzes, and evaluates legislative proposals related to wildlife laws and regulations.
  • Guide response to environmental impact statements and other federal land management plans or decisions.
  • Position manages the review of proposed projects in the State which may impact Wildlife, such as land use, ecosystems, mining impacts, renewable energy, and water development.

The Game Division Administrator must possess extensive knowledge of wildlife ecology, population management, wildlife health, habitat conservation, wildlife disease surveillance, aviation operations in support of wildlife management, and state and federal laws and regulations governing wildlife resources. This position requires strong leadership, strategic planning, communication, and decision-making skills to direct statewide game management, wildlife health, and air operations programs. The incumbent must be able to evaluate complex biological and operational information; develop and implement management strategies; oversee budgets, personnel, and program priorities; coordinate with governmental agencies, stakeholders, and the public; and ensure safe, effective, and scientifically sound wildlife management activities. The ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, address emerging wildlife conservation challenges, and represent the Department in public, regulatory, and professional forums is essential.
