Job Summary

This position will provide oversight and leadership to MnDOT’s District 7 Maintenance Operations in the following areas:

  • Snow and Ice Removal Operations
  • Pavement Repair
  • Drainage Maintenance
  • Traffic Safety Device Maintenance
  • Landscape/Roadside Maintenance
  • Equipment Coordination and Utilization
  • Freeway Operations
  • Preservation and Reconditioning Project Contract Preparation

The position has limited managerial authority and accountability for human and fiscal resources and other resources needed to deliver these aspects of the operations program area in a manner that addresses customer needs. As a member of the Maintenance Business Management Team (MBMT), they will provide leadership, management, and direction to the State and District Maintenance Section so that programs can be accomplished, and constituent needs met.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

One (1) year of managerial experience OR two (2) years of professional supervisory experience OR three (3) years of advanced professional experience demonstrating the following:

  • Leadership skills and the ability to manage, direct and guide a large staff of a multi-disciplined section.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, policies, and codes as they relate to transportation system construction, maintenance, and operations.
  • Knowledge of labor/management relations in order to interpret and enforce the various bargaining unit agreements and the ability to partner with the union on common issues.
  • The ability to weigh technical, fiscal, and political factors simultaneously sufficient to develop innovative solutions, evaluate alternate fixes, be sensitive to internal and external needs, be willing to adjust priorities as conditions change, and be able to distribute limited resources to achieve maximum benefits.
  • Experience overseeing a multi-million annual budget.
  • Human Relations skills sufficient to build effective teams and integrate multiple functions into a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Thorough Knowledge of the Department's Products and Services as they relate to the customer.
  • Experience supporting Maintenance operations staff sufficient to distribute the ever-decreasing resources to meet ever increasing needs and programs.
