This position serves our partners at Minnesota’s largest state agency, the Department of Human Services (DHS). The MNIT DHS team supports complex and varied technical needs, including systems that provide health care coverage, deliver child protection and welfare services, and provide support for Minnesotans with special needs including mental illness, chemical dependencies, and physical or developmental disabilities.

Job Summary

As an IT Quality Analyst/Tester, you will provide professional knowledge and skills in information systems software testing, quality assurance and quality control of application software and systems. This includes the quality of the coding itself and not just the outcome of the application execution. This position promotes appropriate testing methodologies, striving to identify and manage defects in the software systems.

This position requires an employee to be onsite at 540 Cedar St, Saint Paul, Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location.

  • Telework for Minnesota IT Services is available on a limited basis.
  • Employees will be required to meet current telework eligibility requirements.

Qualifications

This position requires a minimum of three (3) years of IT related experience in performing IT quality analysis functions.

Experience must include:

  • Creating business relevant artifacts: test strategies, test plans, test cases and data, test reports, and test closure documents.
  • Participating in formal review of business/functional requirements and application design.
  • Coordinating test schedules and assisting in management of progress of all test activities against the test plan/release schedule.
  • Executing project regression, and system testing tasks.
  • Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.
  • Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

A master’s degree in Information Technology or an IT related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR an IT related bachelor’s degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR an IT related associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with agile software development methodology
  • Experience with one or more programming languages such as java, .NET
  • Experience with programming script languages including Java and VBScript
  • Familiarity with SQL queries for validating back end data
  • Proficiency in testing APIs/services (REST and SOAP) using SoapUI, Postman or equivalent tools
  • Ability to communicate effectively within a cross-functional team
