Under administrative direction performs work of considerable difficulty in providing investigations of criminal cases for staff attorneys.
Definition/Summary of Duties
Consults with staff attorneys in preparation of defense for criminal cases; gathers and analyzes facts and evidence; contacts, interviews, and coordinates court appearances of prospective witnesses and other sources of information; records statements and testimony as well as photographs crime scenes; prepares material evidence for court room presentation; evaluates the credibility, relevancy and admissibility of investigative findings, serves subpoenas, maintains files and records on cases under investigation; aids in the development and implementation of guidelines and policies for investigators.
This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule after successfully completing the probationary period of 12 months.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge:
- Comprehensive knowledge of investigative techniques and procedures appropriate to the area of specialization;
- Comprehensive knowledge of criminal statutes and Rules of Evidence in court procedures.
- Considerable ability to compile and analyze facts and evidence and make sound recommendations;
- Considerable ability to obtain information through interview and interrogation;
- Considerable ability to prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive reports;
- Considerable ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships;
- Considerable ability to work independently;
- Considerable ability to effectively deal with hostile, resistant witnesses or clients;
- Considerable ability to work effectively with the public, courts, attorneys, law enforcement agencies, and clients;
- Considerable ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.

Education and Experience
Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of two years of college course work with an emphasis in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Law Enforcement, or a related field of course work, or three years of related, paid experience.
