Job Description

The Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) is seeking an individual to work in public service as a Department Analystin the Office of Insurance Licensing, Investigations, and Audits. This position is an opportunity to build a lifelong career doing work that truly matters - helping to protect consumers and maintain public confidence in Michigan’s insurance and financial services industries.

This position serves as an analyst responsible for ensuring compliance with the Michigan Pre-Licensing (PE) and Continuing Education (CE) Program within the Insurance Licensing Section. The role includes overseeing the activities of Education Providers (PE and CE) and guiding the education-related functions of the third-party vendor contracted to develop and administer licensure examinations. The third-party vendor reviews and approves education provider, instructor, and course applications and conducts education program audits based on Department guidelines, while this position provides training, oversight, and direction to ensure effective and compliant program administration.

The analyst ensures that provider and course approval requirements are met, verifies the completion of annual education audits, and manages the annual renewal process for CE providers and the biannual renewal of CE courses. The position also monitors the DIFS Education Roster Entry System (DERES), which education providers use to submit course completion data, and ensures that all Licensing web pages related to the education program remain accurate and up to date. In addition, the analyst reviews and approves PE and CE waiver requests and processes Education Instructor applications.

Note: The Salary listed above is a range, and the final salary is determined by the selected candidate’s education and experience.

Work Location: This is an in-person position based in Lansing, Michigan, with the possibility for a hybrid work schedule where you would work from home up to three days per week, following a training period, if approved.

Work must be performed in Michigan. If you currently reside outside of Michigan, you must relocate to Michigan to perform the duties of this position. Relocation expenses are not reimbursed.

Required Education And Experience

Education

Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.

Experience

Departmental Analyst 9

No specific type or amount is required.

Departmental Analyst 10

One year of professional experience.

Departmental Analyst P11

Two years of professional experience, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate (10) level in state service.

Alternate Education And Experience

Departmental Analyst 9 - 12

Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and the equivalent of at least two years of full-time active-duty experience at or above the E-6 level in the uniformed services may be substituted for the education requirement.
