Introduction

The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Maryland. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge, supervision, and direction of the State’s legal business, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials, and institutions of State Government. The OAG also protects the public by civil enforcement of antitrust, civil rights, consumer protection, and securities laws and regulations and by the prosecution of organized crime, Medicaid fraud, environmental crimes, insurance fraud, state tax evasion, and other statutorily assigned matters. As Maryland’s 47th Attorney General, Anthony G. Brown leads the Office with a critical focus on equity, justice, and fairness.

This position offers a salary range of $62,220 - $87,661, with potential for advancement up to $96,790 based on qualifications, equity, and hiring guidelines. Initial salary offers are determined by qualifications, experience, and available budget, and typically do not exceed $87,661.

Main Purpose of Job

The OAG is seeking applicants for an Administrative Officer at the Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA), Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT). The MAA owns and operates the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall (BWI Marshall) and Martin State Airports. The MAA’s oversight of airport operations requires accurate legal advice in a fast-paced working environment.

The Administrative Officer will provide administrative and paralegal support to the Principal Counsel, Deputy Counsel, and four Assistant Attorneys General in MAA’s legal office. In this role, the specialist. This position will assist the attorneys in delivering accurate, timely legal advice to their client.

The selected candidate must successfully complete a Federal Aviation Administration security background investigation to obtain an airport security identification badge. The office is located inside the BWI Marshall airport.


POSITION DUTIES

  • Perform legal research assistance and coordinate the responses to Public Information Act and subpoena requests received by MAA
  • Draft and edit legal documents and correspondence
  • Maintain the law library and legal files
  • Monitor, track, and manage departmental budget reporting
  • Schedule meetings for attorneys
  • Log incoming and outgoing mail, correspondence, and work assignments
  • Process training and travel requests
  • Agency liaison for clerks of courts

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.


Experience: Applicants must have at least three years of administrative or professional experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office or comparable word processing software is required. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills, along with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accuracy while working in a high-volume environment.


DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies, Legal Studies, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a legal office, government agency, or public sector environment.
  • Experience coordinating responses to Public Information Act (PIA) and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, subpoenas, or similar records/compliance matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct legal research and assist in drafting and editing legal documents and correspondence.
  • Knowledge of court procedures, legal terminology, and records management practices.
