Introduction

The Business Services Charter Filing & Processing Unit is custodian of documents relating to the organization and ownership of many types of business entities that are required to file documents with the State. These documents include charters for Maryland corporations and qualifications and registrations for foreign corporations. The unit is also the custodian of security interest (UCC) filings.

State Department of Assessments and Taxation Business Services Unit - Charter Filing & Processing 700 E. Pratt Street, 2nd Floor Baltimore, Maryland 21202

Main Purpose of Job

The incumbent is responsible for handling service of process for the Department pursuant to Maryland Rules, Sections 2-124 and 3-124, and the Maryland Courts and Judicial Proceedings Code Annotated, Section 6-307. Additionally, the incumbent compiles documents in response to subpoenas for Department records and serves as the first-level resource for all inquiries regarding service of process.

POSITION DUTIES

Creates accounts and processes data from subpoena and work orders checks for each subpoena, garnishments, foreclosures and summons served on the Department, within 5 business days. Rejects summons and return to sender when not in order on a daily basis. Enter data from subpoena summons in the MBES database and mail out notices to the plaintiff and defendant within 14 business days. Create affidavits upon request by customer. Responds to attorneys, paralegals and customers by phone & email regarding the status of their filing. Updates information in the MBES database and file incoming documents with a copy of the summons. Tallies checks, and credit card receipts on a daily basis. Generates a TSO report. Performs various other duties as assigned; which may include but are not limited to supporting other terms when appropriate participates in training provided by management for any job duty deficiencies, regularly checks and responds to emails and follows SDAT's Customer Service Policy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. Experience: One year of experience performing clerical duties. Notes: 1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours of education at an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience. 2. Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, database, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for six months of the required experience. 3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administrative classifications or in Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess one or more of the following: Experience providing excellent customer service both face-to-face and over the telephone. Experience drafting, reviewing, and sending professional email correspondence. Experience organizing and filing documents systematically using a numerical system. Experience reviewing court documents and adhering to court deadlines. Demonstrated ability to process a high volume of work efficiently and accurately.
