About This Job
The mission of the Louisiana Veterans Homes is to primarily serve the Veterans' population of Louisiana through the provision of medical, restorative, and rehabilitative services in an atmosphere of respect and compassion. The primary objective of the home is to provide quality nursing care to eligible veterans with the ultimate goal of returning the veterans to the highest possible levels of physical and mental capacity. This position is located in the Dietary Department of the Northwest LA Veterans Home in Bossier City, Louisiana.
We’re looking for a COOK (Food service specialist) to join our Dietary team—a proactive, hard-working team, working to ensure that our Veterans' daily nutritional needs are met.

Minimum Qualifications
One year of food service experience in a food service operation; OR
One year of training in food technology, food service management, or in a food service-related curriculum in a trade school or technical institute; OR
Twelve semester hours in food and nutrition, dietetics, food service preparation, home economics, or hotel, food service, restaurant, or institutional management.

Work Schedule: Work hours are 8 hour shifts which includes DAY OR EVENING shifts. Weekends and/or holidays are required.
Compensation: This position pays $12.25/hr depending on qualifications and is eligible for premium pay of $2.00 per hour worked.

- Plans and directs the preparation of foods, prepares and serves food as assigned on the daily production schedule. Estimates food needs, calculates and adjusts recipes according to production requirements.
- Studies and learns standardized recipes that coordinate with the menu and therapeutic diets. Assume complete responsibility for serving correct diet to each patient.
- Studies and learns patient eating area assignments and serving procedures.
- Serves as lead worker to food service specialists 1’s & 2’s, student workers, patient workers, and community service workers in food preparation, food service and sanitation.
- Clean cooking utensils. Clean kitchen, dining room and storage areas.
