This position serves as a Lead Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS 3) at the Regional STD/HIV Program. The core function of this position is conducting Partner Service interviews and following up on infected individuals, and their partners and/or suspects. The purpose is to prevent the spread of disease by facilitating timely testing and treatment of infected individuals and their partners. This position will also ensure that all (public and private) hospitals, clinics, physicians and laboratories in the region report findings of sexually transmitted disease, including HIV, consistent with Louisiana Office of Public Health Sanitary Codes and STD/HIV Program Guidelines. The purpose is to refer and prevent losing to follow-up persons requiring treatment and case management, as well as to improve effectiveness and response time of the Disease Intervention Specialist staff, thereby further preventing the spread of disease including eliminating infectious syphilis and congenital conditions.

Three years of experience in investigatory work, social services, nursing, or as a medical laboratory technician or assistant; OR

  • Conduct Partner Services interviews of persons diagnosed or suspected of having a sexually transmitted disease including HIV/AIDS in order to elicit names and locating information of persons exposed or of associated risk and documents findings, as required.
  • Identifies, locates, and/or refers case-related partners and clusters for examination, treatment, and interviews.
  • Conducts case management assessments to ascertain fm1her possible potential for spread of disease
  • Recommends and urges physicians and other health care providers to use recommended therapy and appropriate laboratory tests for potential or confirmed cases of communicable disease.
  • Motivates patients and educates the general public on behavior modification, risk reduction, and prevention of communicable disease.
  • Work is consistent with STD/HIV performance standards. Stay abreast of HIV/ AIDS trends and regarding prevention, testing and treatment.
  • Update colleagues on new prevention, testing and treatment initiatives.
  • Serve as a key person in the exchange of surveillance information between the State Office STD/HIV Program and the Regional Program.
  • Serve as the link between the local program and NORAPC.
