Elayn Hunt Correctional Center is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Corrections ARDC Specialist to join our Assessment, Reception, and Diagnostic Center team. This position plays a critical role in the intake, evaluation, and classification process for individuals entering the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections. An ideal candidate should possess the following competencies:

  • Following Policies and Procedures: The ability to follow, reinforce, adapt, or develop policies and procedures to maintain compliance with federal and state legal requirements, State Civil Service rules, and organizational policies.
Three years of experience in offender records analysis, offender classification, offender pre-classification, security, or social services or as a probation or parole officer; OR

Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR

A bachelor’s degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties:

As a Corrections ARDC Specialist, you will play a critical role in managing the assessment, review, and classification processes for offenders, ensuring accurate documentation and informed decision-making to support institutional operations and public safety. In this role, you will:

  • Coordinates with sheriffs’ offices, clerks of court, parish jail administrators, district attorneys, and judges to resolve issues related to new commitments entering DPS&C and ensure accurate, timely transfer of required documentation.
  • Reviews all new commitments for legal and policy compliance, including verification of hard-labor sentences, sex-offender identification, multiple-offender restrictions, and victim-notification requirements. Addresses discrepancies with appropriate agencies.
  • Extracts and interprets key information from court minutes, bills of information, criminal history reports, and pre-sentence investigations to prepare an accurate chronological history of incarceration for classification and intake processing.

Position-Specific Details

Appointment Type: Probation, or Promotion of a permanent, classified employee of LA DPS&C - CORRECTIONS SERVICES (Adult DOC)

  • Current permanent classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted. 
  • An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted. 
  • This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment. 

Career Progression Group: This position may be filled as a Corrections ARDC Specialist 1, 2, or 3

  • Filled at the highest level of experience of the selected applicant.

  • Any qualifying experience that is based on college credit/college hours should have an accompanying transcript for verification.
    • This is a 24-hour facility.
