Description
The Education and Labor Cabinet’s mission is to educate, prepare, train, and ensure the safety of Kentucky's current and future workforces. Our goal is to create and make continuous improvements to an education and workforce system that prepares Kentuckians for the 21st century workforce, while helping businesses find the skilled workers they need to compete and create jobs in the Commonwealth.

The Kentucky Commission on Deaf and Hard of Hearing acts as an advocate for deaf and hard of hearing persons on legislative issues, as well as a consultant to the governor, the General Assembly, and various state and local governmental agencies concerning policies and programs that pertain to people with hearing loss. The agency also provides information, referral and advocacy services, and interpreter referral services for state agencies.

Kentucky Commission on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is seeking qualified applicants for the position of an Information Officer II to perform professional journalistic functions in the development, implementation, and distribution of informational programs and materials in various formats, which may include social media, to make the public aware of the programs and services available through state government agencies; and performs other duties as required.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Research, write, and distribute news releases, feature articles, and fact sheets for newspapers, magazines, and other media outlets.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with media representatives, responding to inquiries and providing accurate information on agency projects and initiatives.
  • Design, write, and produce content and visual design elements for newsletters, brochures, fact sheets, social media and forms, for both internal and external audiences.
  • Develop content and visual materials for webinars, ensuring engaging and informative presentations that align with the organization’s messaging.
  • Reviews all public-facing agency materials, including publications, social media posts, press releases, and webinar content, to ensure clarity, engagement, and consistency with the agency’s and Cabinet’s messaging and branding guidelines.
  • Represents the agency at various board, committee meetings as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
This position will have access to confidential and sensitive information. The successful candidate will be required to ensure the safeguarding and security of all confidential and sensitive information and will be required to complete trainings, sign acknowledgements, follow all policies and adhere to all statutes and requirements pertaining to the safeguarding and security of confidential and sensitive information while employed and after employment ends.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.


EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Two years of experience in journalism, public relations, or experience related to the duties and responsibilities of this job title series.


Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE


Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in one of the above areas will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.
