By joining Office of Public Affairs as an Information Officer III in Franklin County; you’ll have the opportunity to use your writing and media skills to tell the stories of how KYTC keeps Kentucky safely moving by building and maintaining the state’s highway infrastructure, which includes everything from plowing snow, paving interstates, and replacing culverts to supporting Driver’s Licensing and Vehicle Regulation, Airports, Electric Vehicles, Railroads and more.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Three years of experience in journalism, public relations, or experience related to the duties and responsibilities of this job title series.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in one of the above areas will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE

Probationary Period

Holders of the Information Officer III position will complete tasks such as:
- Working individually and as part of a team to perform professional journalistic functions in the development, implementation, and distribution of informational programs and materials to the public and media. This is accomplished in various formats and may include media campaigns, news releases, public events, and social media content.
- Working with engineers, administrators, highway technicians, and other subject matter experts to craft public relations and informational campaigns to share agency knowledge, traffic advisories, driving tips, etc., with the public and media professionals.
- Producing or assisting in the development of written talking points, media and constituent responses, internal and external newsletters, brochures, video and audio productions, fact sheets, PowerPoints, as well as social media content ideation and curation.
- Monitoring and interacting with mainstream and online media, training others in media management and associated news release delivery platforms and media monitoring software. Ideal Candidate will have experience in:
- Writing, editing, multi-media marketing and informational campaign management, media and public relations, public speaking.
- Presentation skills, event planning, graphic arts production including collaborative work for online, audio, and video content.
- Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in media, journalism, communications, or related field.
- Three years of experience in journalism, media, public relations, or experience related to the duties and responsibilities of this job title series.
- Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, email, website and social media management programs, and related software is preferred.
