Position Summary & Responsibilities
Position Summary:
The incumbent identifies and documents requirements for new or modified database systems within the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS). The incumbent develops database specifications based on requirements, then creates and documents database structures, definitions and constraints in the Oracle database environments. The incumbent develops, tests, documents, installs and maintains software for creating database structures, loading into and extracting from databases, performing data edits and security procedures, interfacing databases with systems external to KDADS, and performing database maintenance activities. The incumbent maintains documentation of data definitions and usage within KDADS systems. Software and databases developed and maintained by the Applications Development Branch perform statewide, mission-critical capture, storage, processing and dissemination of data on KDADS program customers, their health, their financial and social conditions, the services they receive, and fiscal and performance measures of program effectiveness and efficiency.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Database configuration and maintenance
Configures and maintains Oracle database instances on agency servers, including disk space allocation, security, synchronization of multiple database instances, performance monitoring, and performance tuning. Performs database backups and data recovery, configures database user accounts, and manages Unix files involved with database exports and imports.
Development
Performs database modeling, development and testing with desktop computers. Produces routine documents, e-mail and spreadsheets using office automation software.
Determines Processing Requirements
Determines and documents requirements for processing and storing business data in KDADS information systems. Uses automated tools to model databases and generate program code. Integrates software products with database system. Tests and documents application software using the database. Corrects errors in data values or processing logic. Assists users with use and interpretation of stored data. Reviews project requests describing database user needs to estimate time and costs required to accomplish project goals.
Provides Information Security Systems
Plans, coordinates, and implements security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification or disclosure.
Completes special projects and performs other duties as assigned including but not limited to ensuring the agency is adequately staffed during and immediately following natural and/or manmade disasters, infectious disease outbreaks, and/or acts of terrorism. Assists other employees in the work unit in accomplishing assignments as necessary.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Successful completion of 24 hours in computer science coursework or certification and one year experience designing/analyzing, coding, testing, debugging database programs or system software programming and analysis or two years' experience designing/analyzing, coding, testing, and debugging database programs or system software programming and analysis.
- Oracle Server environment (Solaris and Windows)
- Oracle Application Server – installation, maintenance, tuning, with cross-database integration.
- Oracle Data Base administration – from 10g through current Oracle data base release configuration.
- SQL Server DBMS experience.
- Extensive knowledge of SQL, SOA services, Java, JavaScript, XML, and HTML
- Travel
