The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) is an executive branch agency in charge of operating and regulating the use of state parks, state lakes, recreational grounds, wildlife areas and sanctuaries, fish hatcheries, natural areas, historic sites and other lands, waters, and facilities for the promotion of public health, safety, and for the use and pleasure of visitors. The agency is also charged with the development and conservation of wildlife and the natural resources within the state. The agency oversees 29 state parks, 500 miles of trails, approximately 460,301 acres of leased or owned public lands, management of four hatcheries, and four nature centers.

To meet our mission, projects, and goals, KDWP employs approximately 466 full time employees and up to 350 temporary employees, throughout the state, with diverse and varying skillsets. The largest agency office is the Operations Offices in Pratt, Kansas. The Office of the Secretary is maintained in Topeka, Kansas. There are four Regional Offices located in Topeka, Wichita, Hays, and Dodge City; six District Offices in Kansas City, Chanute, Colby, Fort Scott, Garden City, and Mound City; and a Research Office located in Emporia, Kansas. Various wildlife, public land, and parks offices are located across the state.

The agency is primarily funded through license fees, grants and federal funds that are provided through the Pittman-Robertson and Dingell-Johnson Acts.

Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks are looking for an innovative and resourceful self-starter with exceptional organization skills to apply for this amazing opportunity!

The Grant Coordinator position is responsible for administering and coordinating multiple federal and state grand programs withing the State Parks Division by providing technical assistance, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting project development from application through closeout. This position administers the Kansas Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) under the direction of the National Park Service, including grant solicitation, application review, project selection, agreement preparation, reimbursement processing, reporting, and long-term stewardship. This position coordinates required site inspections, sponsor outreach, compliance activities, and revision to the Kansas Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) to maintain eligibility for federal funding The Grant Coordinator also administers the Recreational Trails Program (RTP) under the direction of the Federal Highway Administration, providing technical assistance, evaluating application, coordinating funding recommendations, monitoring projects, and ensuring compliance with federal and state requirements. Additionally, the position assists with other federal grant programs administered through agencies such as the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and FEMA, as assigned. The Grant Coordinator serves as the primary liaison with federal, state, local, and nonprofit partners, represents the Department at meetings and trainings, maintains accurate grant records, and provides operational support through working knowledge of the Outdoor Recreation Management System to assist with state park reservation, permit and sales operations as needed.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

• Administer the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and Recreational Trails Program (RTP) in accordance with federal and state requirements.
• Coordinate grant solicitations, application reviews, awards, reimbursements, reporting, and project monitoring.
• Provide technical assistance and guidance to grant applicants, project sponsors, and partner agencies.
• Ensure compliance with federal regulations, including long-term stewardship and monitoring of LWCF-assisted properties.
• Coordinate development and updates to the Kansas Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP).
• Administer and support additional federal grant programs as assigned, including compliance, reimbursement, and reporting activities.
• Serve as the primary liaison with federal, state, local, and nonprofit partners and represent the Department at meetings, trainings, and conferences.
• Maintain grant records and working knowledge of the Outdoor Recreation Management System (ORMS) while providing operational support for state park reservation, permit, and sales functions as needed.

Qualifications

Education: High School diploma or GED Equivalent

Licensing & Certification: Must pass a background check and possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Minimum Qualifications: Three years of experience in grant administration or examining financial records. Education may be substituted for experience as deemed relevant by the agency.

Preferred Qualifications: Coursework or training in grant administration is preferred, experience in natural resources, parks and recreation or closely related field is highly preferred. Individuals with excellent communication skills, knowledge of accounting and grant reporting principles and requirements, ability to facilitate successful team outcomes.
