Position Summary & Responsibilities:
Position Summary:
The Kansas Soldiers’ Home at Fort Dodge is looking for a dependable individual to work as a LPN, working PRN, in our long-term care unit. Our residents are looking for someone who is friendly, has a caring heart and attitude and someone they can count on to be at work as scheduled and wants to be a part of the well-being of our Veterans.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Administer medications and treatments, completing required documentation.
- Complete required document in resident and medical chart, report to RN supervisor as needed.
- Assess needs of residents, monitor response and document.
- Answer call lights and provide assistance.
- Monitor performance of a small group of CNA
- Serve as charge nurse of a specific unit during shift
- Check residents to assure their safety, cleanliness, and comfort.
Qualifications:
Education
- General Education
- Must be educated and trained as a Licensed Practical Nurse
Licensing & Certification
- At time of appointment the employee must possess a Kansas license/temporary permit, or be given authority to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by the Kansas State Board of Nursing.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of LPN, Theory and practice. Ability to apply nursing techniques.
- Ability to follow oral and written directions, prepare and maintain records and reports.
- Helpful and empathetic attitude toward patients.
- Ability to maintain harmonious relationships with co-workers.
- Licensed to practice professional nursing in the state of Kansas: or authority to practice as approved by the Kansas State Board of Nursing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefer one year work experience in geriatric

- As authorized by the 2018 Kansas Legislature, effective July 1, 2018, K.S.A. 75-4362 is amended to designate all positions with the Kansas Commission on Veterans’ Affairs office, to include both the Kansas Soldiers’ Home and Kansas Veterans’ Home as Safety Sensitive positions and subject to the drug testing program. All applicants with a conditional offer of employment on or after July 1, 2018, shall be required to submit to a drug screening test.
