KDHE is comprised of three divisions: Public Health, Environment, and Health Care Finance (which includes the State’s Medicaid program, KanCare). Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The position (K0229780)

Will attend PHEP and HCC quarterly meetings to provide programmatic updates and inform the team of requested training from local partners. Additionally, will provide support to local partners for tribal engagement. Review meeting minutes from PHEP regional meetings and provide summary reports to the Preparedness team. Assist with the development of KGMS forms and resources for LHDs to use in completing quarterly progress reports.

Serves as the Kansas Coordinator for the state's Cities Readiness Initiative (CRI) Program. Organizes and manages all aspects of the CRI program. Assists with the development of the CRI work plan and manages the CRI reporting schedule. Creates and approves CRI progress reports in KGMS. Assists in the development of cooperative agreement applications and progress reports. Works with the Training Coordinator to address gaps and training needs for CRI regions. Works with federal partners for CRI reporting requirements and processes.

Assists with the input in the grant application and budget development process. Gather and analyze data for reports. Enter and synthesize data and information by creating database tables and spreadsheets. Verify data accuracy by comparing source and end-use data. Provides technical planning, assistance in analyzing areas of need, in planning to meet needs, and in documenting effectiveness and compliance with program guides.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Monitor shared email to coordinate technical assistance requests with team members. Serve as backup to Preparedness training coordinators. Send emails from shared email, including introductory/onboarding to new LHD preparedness staff. Serve as a Preparedness Program liaison to various internal and external workgroups/meetings such as EMS-C, Trauma advisory meetings, CEPR, and others as directed.

Perform response-related activities during public health disasters. Will work with the KDHE Radiation Section on training and with other federal, state, and local partners on the response to a radiological event and staffing a reception center in the event of a radiological incident. Serve as back-up for sending KS-HAN alerts and managing bed capacity.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • High School, GED
  • Licensing & Certification:
    • Valid Driver's License - Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid driver's license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.
  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • One year of experience in planning, organizing and directing the work of a department, program or agency. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
    • Ability to understand/follow verbal/written instructions
    • Proofreading, editing, attention to detail
    • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
    • Effective Collaboration skills
    • Ability to work calmly and effectively during stressful conditions
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Public Health Administration or Communications, Emergency Management or related field.
    • Public speaking, meeting planning, and partnership building experience
    • Identify and analyze problems, select and implement solutions using sound principles
    • Accurately interpret technical guidance and correctly apply and teach in understandable format
    • Disaster response experience
    • Database management skills, including producing reports and analysis tools
    • Strong resource management and organizational skills
    • Excellent writing and interpersonal communication
    • Knowledge of Homeland Security Exercise Evaluation Program (HSEEP) guidance and principles
