Job Description
Review intake admissions and issue orders for individuals entering Iowa Medical and Classification Center.
Perform physical examinations for new intakes, as well as routine physicals of the general population scheduled per DOC policy.
Manage chronic health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, COPD, and similar conditions in accordance with DOC policy.
Assess referrals from nursing and ancillary
Health Services staff for new or acute medical issues.
Individual patient encounters may involve referring to specialty medical services, ordering laboratory tests, requesting x-rays or other diagnostic studies, and performing minor procedures (e.g., simple suturing, foreign body removal, nail extraction) as necessary
E-Verify and Right to Work
The State of Iowa participates in E-Verify, a federal program that helps employers confirm the employment eligibility of all newly hired employees. Within the required timeframe, new hires will be verified through the E-Verify system to ensure authorization to work in the United States. The State of Iowa also complies with the federal Right to Work laws, which protect employees’ rights to work without being required to join a labor organization. Licensure as a physician assistant by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistants.
