Position Overview
The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Switchboard Operator I for the Shapiro Center located in Kankakee, Illinois to perform routine work in operating a Department of Human Services, 24-hour, facility switchboard carrying a heavy traffic load. Talks to individuals during the operation of the switchboard. Serves as receptionist and receives and sorts facility mail. Performs routine clerical tasks.
Essential Functions
- Performs routine work in operating a Department of Human services 24-hour, facility switchboard carrying a heavy traffic load.
- Responds to and maintains records for emergency calls such as fire, medical, police etc.
- Serves as receptionist.
- Receives and sorts facility mail.
- Performs routine clerical tasks involving the operation of simple manual or automated office equipment.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental developmental equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of high school.
- Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.

- Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
- Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
