Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire a Site Technician II at Silver Springs State Fish and Wildlife Area and its satellite locations for The Office of Land Management. The person in this position will operate and maintain trucks and trailers over 26,000 lbs requiring a Class A CDL license with Air Brake designation. This position will operate front-end loaders, tree spade, stump cutter and chipper, make minor plumbing and electrical repairs, perform building and ground maintenance and repairs on vehicles and equipment. At Silver Springs State Fish and Wildlife Area there is a pool of clear bubbling water which sparkles like silver on sunny days, even on extremely cold days this pool does not freeze, thus the basis for the name Silver Springs. A natural prairie restoration project gives visitors a feeling of the original landscape with native wildflowers, songbirds, waterfowl and upland game. Camping, fishing, hiking and hunting are popular pastimes at the park. We welcome interested applicants who would like to be part of this team to apply today.

Essential Functions

Under direct supervision, carries out semi-skilled work and routine tasks in the operation, maintenance, and improvement of site grounds at Silver Springs and its satellite locations.
Performs routine maintenance and makes repairs to vehicles and equipment.
Performs building and grounds maintenance.
Performs routine tasks related to outdoor recreational programs.
Assists in implementing the safety and security programs at the site.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.
Requires valid and current Class A Commercial Driver’s license with Air Brake designation.

Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
Two (2) years of experience following written and oral instructions.
One (1) year of experience informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules, and regulations.
One (1) year of experience in outdoor recreation.
One (1) year of experience in groundskeeping.
