- Sample and test aggregate materials used in highway construction or maintenance.
- Monitor and aid the producer(s) through the adherence to the department’s Aggregate Gradation Control System (AGCS).
- Submit and maintain files with respect to the quality and quantity of materials used.
- Assist and direct the producer(s) with operations to ensure the acceptable quality of materials.
- Keep abreast of current standards and procedures related to the inspection of materials.
- Perform duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Perform all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS thirty months of engineering experience; OR six years of
engineering experience.
- Working knowledge of materials testing and laboratory testing equipment.
- Working knowledge of the department's AGCS program and Aggregate Inspector Handbook.
- Ability to resolve conflicts with outside producers.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Requires a valid driver’s license.
- Successful completion of the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) 5-day Aggregate Technician Course upon hire or within 12 months from the date of assuming the position.
- Requires frequent travel district-wide and/or to locations in Missouri within approximately 50 miles of the Illinois border, and other locations within the state of Illinois.
- Requires heavy and repetitive lifting of 40–50-pound samples.
- Requires successful completion of a background screening.
- Requires successful completion of a pre-employment physical and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
- Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position. As a result, the employee should be aware that if offered non-State employment during state employment or within one year immediately after ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non-State employment offer, notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG) or may be subject to a fine.
- This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/4A et seq.) requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public. All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission. (See Executive Order 15-09) Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings.
