Job Summary:
The State of Hawai'i Office of the Public Defender is seeking candidates for a receptionist/clerical position located in the Kaua'i Branch. The receptionist/clerical employee is responsible for assisting deputy public defenders (DPDs) with their court cases by independently performing various legal administrative functions.
Salary: $41,652per year
Responsibilities:
- Provide intake, clerical, receptionist, and mailroom services
- Establish, organize, and maintain accurate and current case files
- Prepare, receive, respond to, organize, and maintain legal documents
- Maintain DPD calendars
- Track and communicate statuses and deadlines to the assigned DPDs
- E-file legal documents with respective Courts on behalf of assigned DPDs
- Schedule client interviews, appointments, and evaluations
- Assist clients with video conference calls and court hearings
- Serve as office point of contact for mandated client programs
- Provide messenger services as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Proficiency in English grammar, spelling, punctuation, diction, and basic mathematical functions
- Working knowledge of legal terminology, various types of court actions and associated processes and procedures, and format and content of legal documents
Skills:
- Excellent written, communication, and organizational skills
- Exceptional customer service abilities
- Meticulous and accurate capacity to prepare and file legal documents
- Detail oriented and extremely organized
- Office management, receptionist, and personal assistant experience
- Proficient in proofreading legal documents
- Aptitude for transcribing court hearings, camera footage, interviews, and more
