Job Summary:
The State of Hawai'i Office of the Public Defender is seeking applicants for deputy public defender positions in our Hilo Branch. Deputy public defenders represent clients who are unable to afford legal representation in criminal legal proceedings in the Hawai'i family, district, circuit and appellate courts.

Hilo Branch - Deputy Public Defender II positions:
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law in the State of Hawai'i
- Candidates from other states who graduated from an accredited law school and hold a license to practice law are eligible for the Limited License Project administered by the Hawai'i State Judiciary. Under the Pilot Project persons who graduated from an accredited law school and who hold a license to practice law in another state may practice in Hawai'i for criminal-law related government agencies.
- Experience in legal research using software such as Westlaw or Lexis-Nexis
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage a high caseload effectively
Salary: $104,242.00 annual salary State of Hawai'i benefits
