The Work You Will Do:

  •  Performs professional accounting work for a complex accounting office.  Motivates, trains, and evaluates employees.  Plans and directs work for the Disbursements section within the Bureau.  Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Develops, implements, and monitors procedures to be followed by employees in the Disbursements Section, assuring that all payments are processed within the time limits imposed by Section 215.422, Florida Statues.
  • Ensures procedures are in place to assure the validity and accuracy of entries into the department’s accounting records including encumbrances, disbursements, and corrections. 
  • Ensures that employees follow all policies and procedures established by the department and the State Comptroller’s Office when auditing invoices for payment.
  • Performs all supervisory administrative tasks required in the day to day supervision of staff.
  • Maintains good communications with stakeholders both internal and external to the department.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of the effect of FLAIR transactions on encumbrances and budget
  • Ability to train
  • Ability to analyze records of financial transactions
  • Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of accounting records
  • Ability to plan and organize
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to independently coordinate work assignments
  • SPECIAL NOTE: Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, FLAIR, MyFloridaMarketplace (MFMP), the Statewide Travel Management System (STMS) and PCard Works.

 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Five years state accounting experience
  • Three years’ experience with FLAIR, MFMP, STMS and PCard Works
  • Familiarity with Florida PALM
  • Two years supervisory experience

 

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
