Summary Statement

This position is assigned to the Transportation Management Center (TMC) a 24-hour planning, engineering, and transportation operations facility.� This position will be responsible for the operation of multiple traffic control monitoring and information systems, incident and event planning, and general dispatching operations. The position requires rotational shift work to include nights, weekends, holidays and extended work hours during incidents or emergencies. Applicants can expect to work closely with the general public to field concerns and answer questions on behalf of the Department. This position is in a career ladder series that includes forward growth up to an EPS IV level.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Inspects infrastructures to ensure compliance with design plans, materials specifications, safety requirements, construction processes, local, state, and federal codes and on-going maintenance requirements; documents and reports compliance or deficiencies. Designs, develops, or reviews engineering project or site layouts, alignments, profiles, studies, graphs, and other related activities. Compiles and records notes, sketches, test results, inspection data, and other information to document compliance and/or develop designs, specifications, reports, maps, and other geographically based data. Conducts various studies to be used by others to analyze needs or develop plans, record characteristics, and other related activities. Conducts data analysis to determine accuracy of data collected, develop recommendations, develop corrective designs, and/or ensure compliance. Tests or evaluates the quality of materials or designs to verify adherence to contracts and specifications. Obtains survey data such as angles, elevations, points, and contours using electronic distance measuring equipment and other surveying instruments. Calculates or measures area and volume dimensions, horizontal and vertical geometry, profile and component specifications, and material testing dimensions using calculators or computers. Operates computer assisted drafting equipment or other tools of the trade, and uses automated information systems and computer software to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve, and report on data.�� Reads and interprets plans, specification, blueprints, and other engineering documents. Performs other related duties as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Engineering/Planning/Surveying Technician I Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas: Traffic - Transportation Management Center TMC: Knowledge of applied mathematical computations. Knowledge of interpreting construction plans and details, schematics or technical drawings. Possession of a valid Drivers License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving). JOB REQUIREMENTS for Engineering/Planning/Surveying Technician II� Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas: Traffic - Transportation Management Center TMC: Six months experience in applied mathematical computations. Six months experience in interpreting construction plans and details, schematics or technical drawings. Knowledge of using intelligent transportation systems to perform transportation management which includes optimizing the efficiency of traffic flow and operations. Knowledge of developing, implementing, and evaluating the effectiveness of traffic management solutions in responding to planned events and non-recurring incidents that impede normal traffic flow. Knowledge of evaluating the effectiveness of traffic control methods and devices including signs or pavement markings. Knowledge of using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.� Possession of a valid Drivers License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving). JOB REQUIREMENTS for�Engineering/Planning/Surveying Technician III� Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas Traffic - Transportation Management Center TMC: Six months experience in using intelligent transportation systems to perform transportation management which includes optimizing the efficiency of traffic flow and operations. Six months experience in evaluating the effectiveness of traffic control methods and devices including signs or pavement markings. Six months experience in interpreting construction plans and details, schematics or technical drawings. Six months experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating the effectiveness of traffic management solutions in responding to planned events and non-recurring incidents that impede normal traffic flow. Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data. Knowledge of analyzing the cause of and remedies for high-risk traffic conditions. Knowledge of project management which includes planning, developing, implementing, managing and evaluating projects to ensure objectives are met. Possession of a valid Drivers License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Additional Posting Information

Incumbents working four or more hours of work between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. the following day will receive 5% shift differential pay.
