Connecticut Valley Hospital (CVH), under the umbrella of the State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is seeking a dedicated and mission-driven individual to join our team as a part-time Maintainer (Driver/Equipment Operator). This position is mission critical to the health, safety and welfare of DMHAS clients and the general public by providing transportation services to our patients medical appointments.

  • Shift: Part-time, First Shift, 32 hours/week
  • Schedule: Monday - Thursday (8:30am to 3:30pm) and Friday (8:30am to 3:00pm)

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Transport patients to and from their medical appointments and/or group therapies from the CVH Middletown campus. The Drivers will prioritize a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for all patients who require this service, ensuring accurate and timely scheduling and navigation. Some additional responsibilities for this role may include:
  • Operates motor vehicles of less than a five-ton capacity for messenger service, delivery service, stock work, grounds maintenance and the like.
  • Loads and unloads vehicles.
  • Maintains vehicles in good condition including cleaning, lubrication and preventive maintenance.
  • Supplies motor vehicles with gas, oil, water and other fluids.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency this class is accountable for performing duties a substantial amount of time (75%) in one or both of the following areas:

  • Transportation of individuals serviced by the agency;
  • Grounds care (outside services) equipment operation.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

ALL AREAS

  • Keeps simple records and prepares reports (this should be related to duties and not a full-time office record keeping position);
  • Performs related duties as required.
TRANSPORTATION OF INDIVIDUALS SERVICED BY THE AGENCY:

  • Operates a passenger motor vehicle for transportation of individuals with disabilities and other patients;
  • Ensures safety of all passengers;
  • Maintains vehicles in good condition including cleaning and lubrication and preventive maintenance as required;
  • Keeps records in connection with vehicles (gas, oil, mileage) and materials delivered;
  • May deliver medications to and from various locations;
  • May pick up and deliver prescriptions, payroll documents, mail, equipment, medical records, various documents, groceries, etc;
  • May pick up and deliver other state vehicles to state facilities;
  • May perform some stores functions involving loading and unloading of materials, inventory and record keeping.
These are only examples of types of tasks that a Maintainer (Driver/Equipment Operator) may be expected to perform. Incumbents in this class will also be expected to perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any experience and training which provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possession of a current valid driver’s license demonstrating a history of safety and compliance.
  • Experience driving or transporting patients or medical materials in a healthcare or logistical setting.
  • Experience managing time to ensure adherence to scheduled pickups and deliveries.
  • Experience with sanitizing procedures.
  • Experience with vehicle operation and basic maintenance.
  • Experience navigating routes on and off a campus or job site.
  • Experience maintaining accurate documentation and medical records.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility, visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties.
  • A physical examination may be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Incumbents in this class may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights; may be exposed to extreme weather conditions and risk of injury from equipment and assaultive and/or abusive patients and/or clients.
  • The appointing authority may require completion of an asbestos removal program consistent with EPA guidelines for operations and maintenance during employment in this class. Incumbents may be required to use protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles.
