The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) has three major operational divisions: Colorado National Guard (Army and Air), Civil Air Patrol, and Veterans Affairs. These divisions utilize state and federal resources to provide our communities, State and nation with a ready military force for national defense and State emergency response as well as serving our Colorado Veterans.

Position Overview
The Marketing and Communications Specialist for the Colorado Division of Veterans Affairs (DVA) is responsible for developing, coordinating, and executing strategic communications and outreach efforts that increase awareness of programs, services, and resources available to Colorado Veterans and their families.
Duties
This position plays a critical role in shaping the Division's public presence, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring consistent, accurate, and impactful messaging across all platforms. The Specialist works closely with internal staff, community partners, and state leadership to promote initiatives that support the veteran community. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Experience Only
Six (6) years of relevant experience in marketing, advertising, and/or communications.
OR
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Marketing, Advertising, Business, or a closely related field AND two (2) years of professional experience in marketing, advertising, and/or communications.

This position plays a critical role in shaping the Division's public presence, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring consistent, accurate, and impactful messaging across all platforms. The Specialist works closely with internal staff, community partners, and state leadership to promote initiatives that support the veteran community. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- developing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive and cohesive communication plans and strategies for the Colorado Division of Veterans Affairs that aligns with the overarching mission including copywriting, copy editing, creative development, minimal graphic design, and vendor management ;
- creating, editing, and distributing content for digital platforms, social media, print materials, press releases, and reports;
- coordinating outreach campaigns to increase engagement with veterans, stakeholders, and community partners;
- ensuring brand consistency and compliance with State of Colorado communication standards;
- tracking and analyzing performance metrics for campaigns and adjust strategies accordingly;
- serving as a point of contact for media inquiries and public information requests;
- supporting event promotion, community engagement efforts, and public-facing initiatives;
- collaborating with internal teams and external partners to highlight programs, success stories, and impact;
- developing and implementing the programming of communication tools that are fully accessible to individuals with disabilities, adhering to all relevant federal and state regulations and established best practices; and
- ensuring accessibility and inclusivity in all communications (i.e., ADA compliance, plain language, etc.).
