Department Information

The Colorado Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) has four major operational divisions: Army National Guard, Air National Guard, Civil Air Patrol, and Veterans Affairs. Description Of Job

This position is a part of our Army National Guard division and will work at our Centennial Training Center on Ft. Carson as part of the Facilities Management branch. This position will work independently as well as a part of a team to perform general trades maintenance activities. Working hours are Tuesday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • maintaining facility grounds involving weed and pest control, lawn mowing, maintaining fencing, snow removal, and sprinkler system repairs and timing;
  • maintaining an orderly shop and worksite daily;
  • painting and patching a variety of surfaces such as stucco, hard surfaces, concrete, and metal involving hanging drywall, priming, sanding, and sealing utilizing a variety of materials such as stain, lacquer, shellac, enamel, latex, epoxy, water-proofing and heat resistant finishes;
  • performing preventative maintenance on HVAC and auxiliary systems as well as assisting State Maintenance Technicians in repairing equipment;
  • maintaining facility by performing a variety of functions such as sweeping, mopping, replacing light bulbs, air vents, windows, moving and assembling furniture;
  • using, repairing, and cleaning a variety of hand tools, power tools, and equipment to perform duties to include snow blowers, front end loaders, tractors, shovels, painting equipment, scaffolding, ladders, Boom Lift, and scissor lifts;
  • performing a variety of administrative tasks such as updating and utilizing material safety data sheets; proper labeling of supplies, chemicals, and containers; maintaining inventory control systems; conducting daily and weekly facility inspections; developing and maintaining equipment user-manual systems; using work order software systems; accurately recording daily time; and actively participating in division safety meetings;
  • responding to facility emergencies during weekends and holidays; and
  • escorting contractors onto job site.

  • Must be able to perform physical work involving general tasks including hauling, lifting, moving, and digging.
  • Must possess a valid and current State of Colorado Driver's License at the time of application.
  • Must have a mechanical aptitude.
  • Must be willing and able to operate a variety of hand tools and equipment.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Must be able to pass a background check at initial employment and every few years thereafter.
  • Continued employment is conditional upon the successful completion of a security clearance within the first nine months of employment.

  • Must be willing to submit to random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Must be willing to work overtime and on-call as needed.
  • Must be willing to work after hours or pre-hours performing snow removal operations and/or assisting other areas/facilities as needed.
  • Able to perform strenuous labor.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, crawl, kneel ,bend, reach above the shoulder.
  • Ability to constantly lift and carry ten pounds, frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to push, pull, have manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, near and far vision, hearing abilities, and be able to verbally communicate with others.
  • Ability to work inside, work around noise and vibrations, walk on uneven surfaces, operate moving equipment/vehicle, climb on a ladder, work in a small confined space, work with machinery, and work in hazardous conditions.
