SENIOR POLICY ANALYST - OFFICE OF SENATOR HENRY STERN

SALARY RANGE: $7,006 - $13,328 per month

The Policy Analyst will work with Senator Stern, his chief of staff and the Legislative Director, as well as or top policy aides in the Capitol and the Administration, to develop, vet, and advance legislation, staff policy briefings and negotiations with a diverse range of advocates in the California State Capitol. Fluency on issues core to Senator’s agenda, including clean energy, wildfire, oil & gas, utilities, international climate innovation, behavioral health in the carceral system, youth technology addiction, Holocaust education and antisemitism.

SKILLS

The ideal candidate will be familiar with the legislative process, as well as the structure and policies of state government. A minimum of three to six years of legislative and budget experience, excellent oral and written communications skills, and a strong policy and legislative process background are required. Candidates must have the ability to manage multiple projects, thrive under deadlines, and work well in a team environment.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree and atleast 3 years direct legislative experience required. 5 years legislative experience preferred.

LOCATION AND SALARY:

This position is located in Sacramento, CA and requires in person attendance. The Senate’s core business hours are 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and may require after hours or weekend work. Duties may also include international work and project work in Southern California. Final salary will be commensurate with experience and education. Seniority and significant experience are required to reach the higher end of the salary range.
