What you will be doing:
Join the Department of Fish & Game (DFG) Human Resource team to provide technical information, support and assistance to DFG managers and employees. The DFG HR team is a collaborative work environment, that strives to build positive working relationships with our unique workforce. In this position, you’ll gain hands-on experience across a wide range of human resource functions, building both knowledge and practical skills in multiple areas.
Under the general supervision of our Payroll Supervisor, this position is responsible for the timely and accurate processing, certification, review and audit of all payroll, leave and personnel actions in accordance with applicable Personnel Rules, bargaining unit provisions, statutes and standard operating procedures.

This position is located in Juneau. ADF&G supports work-life balance by offering a hybrid in-office and telework scheduling after a successful training period. Working hours can be flexibly scheduled between the standard operating hours, Monday-Friday.
The incumbent will be working at ADF&G Headquarters, located on the Juneau Downtown Boardwalk and Gastineau Channel Waterfront. This facility is in the heart of downtown with ample amenities nearby.

Minimum Qualifications
Six months of entry technical level experience in human resource work equivalent to a Human Resource Technician 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
Substitution:
Graduation from high school or the equivalent and one year of advanced clerical experience.
Substitution:
One year of postsecondary education (32 semester hours or 48 quarter hours from an accredited college or university equals one year) in any field.
Special Note:
High school graduation "equivalent" means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D (i.e. passing the General Educational Development test).; 2) completion of any basic adult education course of 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 hours per week); 3) six months of work experience performing duties related to office or clerical support; 4) twelve months of work experience involving some routine tasks related to office or clerical support; 5) highest grade of school completed plus any kind of work experience that totals 12 years or more; or 6) acceptance for admission in full standing by an accredited college or university.
"Human resource" work includes experience in recruitment and selection, classification, employee training, employer provided benefits programs, employment law compliance, personnel, payroll, or employee or labor relations.

SPECIAL NOTE:
The State of Alaska is realigning payroll services by decentralizing payroll functions for seven (7) departments, including the Department of Fish and Game. The incumbent of this position will be initially appointed in the Department of Administration, Division of Finance and may initially be physically located within the Department of Administration. The position will transfer effective July 1, 2026.
