Role Description The Boat Fit-Out Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in Bristol, RI, responsible for assembling, outfitting, and preparing small sailboats for delivery to customers and programs. Daily tasks include installing hardware, rigging spars and sails, fitting safety and performance accessories, and ensuring each boat meets quality and specification standards. The technician will read and follow build sheets and technical diagrams, use hand and power tools to complete fit-out work, and perform inspections and minor troubleshooting. The role also involves maintaining a clean, organized workshop, collaborating with production and logistics teams to meet delivery deadlines, and occasionally assisting with inventory, shipping preparation, and customer-specific customizations.
Qualifications
- Strong mechanical aptitude and experience working with hand and power tools for assembly, rigging, or marine-related projects.
- Ability to read and follow technical drawings, build sheets, and written instructions with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Background or familiarity with sailing, small sailboats, or marine hardware, including basic understanding of rigging and boat components.
- Reliable time management, ability to work on-site full time in Bristol, RI, and capability to meet production schedules and deadlines.
- Physical ability to lift and move boat components, stand for extended periods, and work safely in a shop environment.
- Commitment to quality workmanship, safety practices, and continuous improvement in processes and techniques.
- Effective communication skills and willingness to collaborate with team members across production, logistics, and customer service.
- Prior experience in boat building, marine service, or a related hands-on trade is preferred; vocational training or relevant certifications are a plus.
