Job Overview
The Career Pathways Coordinator plays a pivotal role in guiding young adults with mild intellectual/developmental disabilities through their career development journey. We are NOT an adult day care! Our members are working towards independent life and careers are the key.
This position involves providing comprehensive support in areas such as academic advising, mentoring, and recruiting. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and a background in education, career placement, social work, or special education, but could also include extensive retail and business management experience, enabling them to effectively assist individuals in achieving their career goals.
Duties
- Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to assess students' career aspirations and provide tailored guidance.
- Facilitate workshops on resume writing, interviewing techniques, and job search strategies.
- Collaborate with staff and local businesses to enhance career services and supportive work environments, and promote engagement.
- Utilize Google Workplace and a simple database for managing client records and tracking progress.
- Mentor clients through their journey, offering advice on continuing education and career pathways.
- Analyze labor market trends to provide relevant information to students regarding potential career opportunities.
- Support recruiting efforts by connecting students with employers and participating in or organizing job fairs/networking events.
- Deliver presentations on career-related topics to diverse audiences, demonstrating strong public speaking skills.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or relevant experience
- Experience working with a neurodiverse population in an educational setting is helpful if you feel strongly about empowering clients to do more for themselves.
- Strong mentoring abilities with a passion for helping others succeed in their careers.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse groups.
- Familiarity with academic advising practices and individual/group counseling techniques.
- Demonstrated analysis skills to evaluate student needs and develop effective strategies for career development.
- Previous experience in recruiting or teaching is a plus, along with a solid understanding of university operations. This role requires a proactive approach to fostering student success through effective career management practices while maintaining a supportive environment for personal growth and professional development.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $41,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
