Job Title: Sanitation Team Member
The Sanitation Worker is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, and compliance in the facilities at Starter Bakery. This position ensures that all equipment, tools, and facilities are cleaned and sanitized according to the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS), Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), and all regulatory and company requirements (HACCP, FDA, OSHA, GMPs). The role also supports waste management, inventory of cleaning supplies, and the documentation required to prepare the bakery for production and food safety audits
What you’ll do
- Clean and sanitize production equipment, utensils, and facility areas (ovens, mixers, proofers, lamination rooms, walk-ins, freezers, bathrooms, breakrooms).
- Follow MSS instructions and food safety standards.
- Immediately clean spills and debris to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.
- Dishwashing of the pans, molds and bakery equipmen
- Collect, sort, and dispose of trash, recycling, and organic material.
- Transport waste safely, following safety protocols and hazardous materials procedures.
- Perform all MSS tasks (daily, weekly, monthly, annual).
- Document all cleaning activities (date, time, initials, completion).
- Comply with all safety standards, including the proper use of PPE.
- Correctly follow Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures.
- Handle and use cleaning chemicals safely in accordance with training and safety data sheets.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment malfunctions, or hazards.
Basic qualifications
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on cleanliness and sanitation practices.
- Physical ability to perform repetitive tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs. (23 kg).
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, or kneel for extended periods.
- Ability to work in variable temperatures (hot ovens, cold freezers).
- Availability on weekends and some holidays is required.
Preferred qualifications
- One or more years of sanitation experience in food manufacturing.
- Knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, MSS, and FDA/OSHA regulations.
- Experience in bakery, dairy, beverage, or other food manufacturing environments
