The Associate General Counsel (AC) will handle a wide range of risk and compliance matters for the clinical and non-clinical functional units at the organization, including Medical and Nursing Services, Human Resources Development, Finance, Information Technology, Research, Maintenance, and Security. The AC will report directly to the General Counsel and will be responsible for providing a high level of administrative and organizational support to the AC. The AC will also serve as a thought partner and collaborator with the General Counsel on developing and improving systems for knowledge management, project tracking, contract review, and other critical initiatives. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Respond to legal and compliance inquiries from within the organization, and from external inquiries that relate to the obligations of the organization, review, and draft recommended updates to organization policies, review and negotiate contracts, review and approve patient and employee records disclosure, and draft legal briefs for internal distribution and for submission to external agencies.  Provide general administrative support to the OGC, including taking meeting minutes, monitoring action items, and follow-up.  Develop an understanding of the organization’s mission and programmatic work; and attend departmental and inter-departmental meetings to become versed in the organization’s work. Coordinate with the Compliance Officer to ensure organizational legal and policy compliance. Coordinate with functional units to ensure contract compliance.  Other tasks and special projects as assigned. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES Law school graduate and current admission to the New York State Bar  2-4 years of post-graduate legal experience in a New York not-for-profit organization or government agency, interpreting and applying federal and New York State healthcare law and policy. Excellent research, analytic, writing, and communication skills. Strong work ethic and initiative, and sound and creative judgment. Demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and orientations. Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others. Willingness to travel throughout the New York metropolitan area. Consistently makes sound decisions in a timely manner supportive of the organization’s mission, core values, and strategic objectives. Blends vision and judgment. Ability to effectively collaborate with various and diverse individuals and groups, and a willingness to actively listen and invite different views and opinions across all levels of the organization to build alignment in support of a common goal. Actively gives and requests feedback to and from peers and supervisor about work products, behaviors, values, style, and approaches with a view to how this impacts self, other individuals, and teams. Consistently applies openness and honesty in communicating decisions and plans to team members. Possesses and applies a growth mentality to self and team development.  Promotes a culture of learning by modeling inquisitiveness and an openness to viewing mistakes as an opportunity to learn and improve, harnesses skills for the future needs of an evolving organization. Follows through on each commitment made to individual contributors, teams, and partners and proactively informs others of any delays that occur along the way. Possesses impeccable integrity, personal and professional maturity, and values that are consistent with the organization’s high standards and mission.  Flexibility and ability to adapt to shifting duties while maintaining focus and follow-through and the ability to work professionally in a fast-paced environment; ability to prioritize in response to urgent requests. Ability to handle confidential information and matters with the highest level of discretion. Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with attention to detail, accuracy, and pacing. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including research and proofreading skills. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with the capacity to receive and accept constructive feedback, take initiative and be proactive, and demonstrate solid problem-solving skills. Applies big-picture thinking while also focusing on the details of implementation. Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience working with addiction treatment programs and 42 CFR Part 2. Experience working with New York State agencies: Department of Health, Office of Addiction Services and Supports, Office of Mental Health, and the New York State Justice Center; with federal agencies: Department of Health and Human Services and Drug Enforcement Agency. Experience with federal and New York State labor and employment law.  Experience working with union employees and collective bargaining agreements. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Able to work outside of the traditional hours of 9:00 am to 5:00 pm upon request.   PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Salary : $150,000 - $190,000
