A regionally and nationally recognized civil defense litigation firm is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our team as a Legal Nurse Consultant. This role is ideal for a clinically seasoned nurse who is eager to apply their medical expertise to complex civil defense matters.


The ideal candidate brings strong long-term care experience, exceptional analytical skills, and outstanding written and verbal communication abilities.


ABOUT THE ROLE


Reports To: Legal Nurse Consultant Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt


The Legal Nurse Consultant provides high-level nursing and medical analysis on complex legal matters. Working closely with attorneys, this role evaluates medical records, identifies liability and causation issues, supports defense strategy, and transforms clinical data into clear, persuasive legal insight.


Key Responsibilities


  • Review, analyze, and interpret medical records to assess the appropriateness and quality of care.
  • Evaluate medical records for completeness in preparation for attorney review.
  • Prepare detailed medical chronologies, timelines, and comprehensive summaries.
  • Analyze medical records to evaluate the claimant’s medical condition and course of treatment.
  • Identify potential issues related to standard of care, liability, and causation.
  • Retain and coordinate with medical experts.
  • Assist attorneys with preparation for depositions, hearings, and trial.
  • Conduct medical literature research and support additional investigative efforts.
  • Draft memoranda, reports, and other case-related documents.
  • Perform additional case-related duties as assigned.

Education


  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (required)
  • Master of Science in Nursing (preferred)


Experience

  • 7 years of clinical nursing experience required
  • Substantial long-term care experience required
  • Legal Nurse Consulting experience is a plus, but not required

  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and meet tight deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Adobe
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality


Physical & Work Requirements

  • Attendance Regular attendance during regularly scheduled work hours.
  • Remote Work – Opportunity for working remote is available for employees after completing an in-house training and evaluation period. Frequency of remote work shall be dependent on current firm policy as well as periodic demands of individual caseload.
  • Perception – Ability to perceive written details at close range
  • Stationary position – Ability to remain in a stationary position 60 – 80% of the time
  • Moving – Frequently move around the office to access physical files and office equipment
  • Operation – Constantly operate a computer and other office equipment. Constantly sort and organize records and legal documents.
  • Lifting/carrying – Frequently lift and carry binders and records weighing up to 10 lbs., and occasionally lift, push and pull up to 50 lbs.


Work Environment

  • Workspace – Shared and individual open workspaces.
  • Temperature – Temperature controlled heating and air conditioning.
  • Noise ­ Moderate noise level.
