As we expand into the Oregon region, we are recruiting qualified officers for a secured detention facility contract requiring disciplined, reliable, and professional security staff.
Position Summary
Starlite EP International is hiring Armed and Unarmed Detention Security Officers to maintain the safety, security, and operational readiness of a detention center in Newport, Oregon. Officers will be responsible for controlled movement, supervision of detainee housing units, secure transportation, and maintaining order within a structured environment.
This role requires strong situational awareness, excellent communication skills, and the ability to operate under strict procedures.
Primary ResponsibilitiesCore Duties (Armed & Unarmed)
- Provide security and supervision within detainee housing units, pods, common areas, and perimeter zones.
- Monitor detainee activities and enforce facility rules, safety protocols, and behavioral compliance.
- Conduct controlled movement operations, escorts, and supervision of detainees inside and outside the facility.
- Perform routine security checks, searches, and inspections of cells, common areas, and restricted zones.
- Manage access control points and monitor facility entry/exit procedures.
- Conduct surveillance and monitor cameras, sensors, and electronic security systems.
- Respond to disturbances, altercations, and emergency situations using approved de-escalation techniques.
- Complete detailed incident reports, use-of-force reports, and daily logs.
- Assist with intake, booking, property inventory, and identification processes.
- Conduct perimeter patrols and integrity checks of fencing, gates, and secure barriers.
- Maintain professional communication with supervisors, federal partners, and facility administrators.
Additional Responsibilities (Armed Officers)
- Provide armed support during high-risk movements, perimeter posts, and rapid-response assignments.
- Safely carry, maintain, and handle authorized firearms according to Oregon DPSST and company standards.
- Assist in emergency response operations, including disturbances, escape attempts, or facility breaches.
- Participate in tactical training, firearms qualification, and operational readiness drills.
QualificationsRequirements for All Applicants
- Must be at least 18 years old (unarmed) or 21 years old (armed).
- Must possess or be eligible for DPSST Unarmed or Armed Certification.
- Ability to pass background check, drug screening, and facility-level clearance requirements.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to stand, walk, supervise detainees, and respond to emergencies for extended periods.
- Must be professional, dependable, and capable of working in a structured, detention-style environment.
Additional Requirements for Armed Officers
- Valid DPSST Armed Security Certification or ability to complete training.
- Verified safe firearm handling skills and ability to pass firearms qualification.
- Compliance with all federal, state, and facility-specific weapons rules.
Preferred Experience
- Prior experience in corrections, detention, jail operations, military police, or law enforcement.
- Experience in de-escalation, defensive tactics, or crisis intervention.
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification (or ability to obtain).
- Experience working in structured or high-security environments.
